Vita Scholars engage in conversation with Redeem Mi Land

Vita Scholars (and me!) enjoy a brisk Michigan Saturday

It may have been a cold, rainy, and muddy March…but that Michigan weather didn’t keep a cohort of students from venturing out onto the Montague project land and learning about Redeem Mi Land. The Vita Scholars Program is an accelerated pastoral degree program at Hope College and Western Theological Seminary where students earn both a B.A. and M.Div in five or six years. The students you see in the picture above are all at various stages of this program and were in the middle of a weekend long intensive focusing on God’s Creation and our call to care for it.

We were able to spend time talking about the land and the project itself, where the church intersects with it, as well as the community as a whole. We talked about the real world struggles of ministry, where people and policy intersect, but also the opportunities to engage with one another in those tensions.

These students will emerge from their scholarly pursuits as ministry leaders, looking to share their hearts and minds, as well as getting their hands dirty in an effort to spread the gospel. Some of the goals they have through their years in study are to…

Have imaginations inspired by the gift of Jesus Christ to the whole cosmos

  • See the beauty of God’s work and of God’s people at work in different geographic contexts

  • Embrace ministries that serve people and churches in rural settings or in inner-city locations

  • Value and understand the work that takes place in these different contexts

  • Have a biblical vision of vocation and work

  • Develop the skills to engage the contemporary economic, political and cultural realities in light of the gospel

It will be an exciting time to see how they bring enthusiasm and love into all the ministry contexts they will be part of. If you would like to learn more about the Vita Scholars program you can CLICK HERE

Fundraising stats for March 2026

THANK YOU

In March, Redeem Mi Land brought in a total of $1050. This was a joint effort between Unity Reformed Church’s communion offering, personal donations, and an honorarium from Western Theological Seminary. Your contributions are very much appreicated and necessary to do this work.

These gifts have brought us closer to our goal for 2026, with only $12,750 remaining.

If you would consider giving towards the work of Redeem Mi Land in your own way, you can donate online HERE or you can mail your donation to…

UPCOMING RACE : Our annual race, Redeem Mi Run, is happening on October 31st. This is always such a fun event; however, this year it will take place after the Summer work is done. This is why early registration is so appreciated! Not only will you receive your race entry at the lowest rates we can offer, but your registration fees will also directly support the work to be done this Summer.

APRIL RACE EXPO IN MUSKEGON: Each year Run Muskegon (@runmkg on facebook) hosts a race expo in the Spring at Pigeon Hill Brewing. Anyone can come run a few miles, have a beer, make some friends, and hear about many of the upcoming local races. Redeem Mi Run will have a table and be sharing with this running communty about the race in Montague, the land project that is right at the start/finish lines, and about the ministry itself. The expo takes place on Wednesday, April 22nd @7pm with some pre-expo running at 6:30pm. Free to attend the expo and to run with the Run Muskegon group. You may even win a free entry or other prizes!

If you already know you want to participate in the 5K or half marathon race, you can register HERE
